Sunday’s event called “ Let’s help owls nest” is successfully behind us. The participation pleasantly surprised us all, more than 130 people gathered, from far and near. The atmosphere that prevailed throughout the event left a pleasant impression on all of us 😀
At the beginning, the organizers welcomed all participants, followed by a speech by Ivan Daráni from the KUKAJ community and the whole thing was crowned by a speech by the director of the Veľká Fatra National Park Administration – Mgr. Peter Vantara.

This was followed by a lecture entitled “Owls of the Veľká Fatra National Park” , where Ing. Juraj Žiak from the Administration of the Veľká Fatra National Slingshot summarized his many years of experience with owls. Among other things, the participants learned what species of owls live in our area, what is their way of life, how each species speaks, what makes it alive and we also “buried” many myths and superstitions that still circulate about owls. Also, the participants learned what types of nest boxes each species likes, and after the lecture, we released a rehabilitated individual of the slumbering clematis together and started making nest boxes with gusto.

The working skills of all participants were at a high level, as evidenced by the 24 large owls produced! This practical activity won over both the youngest and the oldest participants. Everyone saw, drilled, nailed, banged and painted 😀 After the end, we evaluated the competition for the most beautiful booth. Since they were all very nice, the jury did not have it easy at all and in the end two booths won the first place! The winners received very nice prizes, which were donated to the event by sponsors. This was followed by another lecture prepared by zoologist Palo Balo – a former employee of TANAP. The lecture was about marmots and chamois in the Tatras and gained the attention of all participants.

The guest of honor of the event was – zoologist Palo Ballo from the Tatra National Park.

In conclusion, we would like to thank all those who contributed with any help and this pleasant event. So also to all the sponsors who gave beautiful gifts to the competitions and, last but not least, to the mayor of the village of Nolčovo – Vladimír Mihálik, who provided the premises of the cultural house, provided tools and work tables.

The main organizers of the event – Juraj Žiak and Ivan Daráni.

The two most beautiful owl booths were rewarded with nice prizes.

And this is what the removal of the owls looked like, suddenly it was not even possible to take it all 😀

We believe that we will see each other again soon, as we still have to hang all 24 owls! 😀
