Why is the Revúca River significant?

Revúca is a well-preserved foothill river with alluvial swamps, peat meadows and riparian vegetation. It flows on the border of two orographic units – the Veľká Fatra and the Low Tatras, and since 2002 it has the status of a protected area, where the 4th degree of territorial protection applies, which is determined according to Act 543/2002 Coll. The Revúca Protected Area is one of the small-scale protected areas of Slovakia, mainly due to the occurrence of valuable habitats of rare and endangered species of fauna and flora. It also represents an important biocenter and biocorridor. The total area of this area is 39.2192 ha. The Revúca Protected Area is a section of the Revúca River from the mouth of the right-hand tributary Malý Hričov under the settlement of Liptovské Revúce (Nižné) to the bridge at Jazierce near the farmyard of PD Ružomberok. The area is part of the Veľká Fatra National Park and its small part belongs to the protection zone of the Low Tatras National Park.

The basis of the entire protection of the area is to ensure the preservation of the living conditions of species. The most important measures include preventing the justification of the surrounding wetlands, preserving riparian vegetation, preventing water pollution and deterioration of its quality, as well as reducing pollution by municipal waste from surrounding villages and recreational facilities.
