Contract Disclosure: https://www.crz.gov.sk/zmluva/11368578/?csrt=1513321280718437445

Project duration: 1. 7. 2025 – 30. 11. 2029

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union under the Slovakia 2021 – 2027 Programme in the total amount of € 8,262,070.29 .

The main objective of the project is to improve the condition of selected species and their habitats in the Veľká Fatra National Park. The project directly responds to the needs and obligations arising from the legislation of the Slovak Republic and the valid Territorial Care Program. 46 employees will be involved in its implementation, who, under the guidance of a professional coordinator and project manager, will ensure all activities in accordance with the budget and schedule.

The activities of the project are focused on mapping invasive alien plant species, selected protected animals and plants, as well as on the identification of hatcheries and non-forest habitats. An important part will be the processing of data from field surveys and making them available in the WebLES and KIMS systems. Interventions will be carried out in the field to restore and modify hatcheries where grounding has occurred, and infrastructure will be built to guide tourism. Great emphasis is also placed on environmental education and the education of visitors to better understand the values of the national park.

The project will also focus on the active protection of capercaillie sites and nesting sites of selected bird species. Field work will be carried out to determine the condition of vegetation in the areas of occurrence of the capercaillie, control and clearance of hiking trails, as well as professional supervision of repairs and maintenance of trails and water retention measures. The security service will supervise the protection of nature and eliminate risks associated with the activities of suppliers or the occurrence of so-called ecological traps. The measures will also include planting rowan and other woody plants, pruning and other active management of stands. In addition, new tourist sites will be created, which will make the area more attractive in accordance with nature protection.

The result of the project will be a visible improvement in the condition of selected species and habitats, the creation of new expert data that will be processed into information systems and GIS layers, the restoration of hatcheries and the strengthening of the protection of capercaillie sites. An important output will also be an educational video about capercaillie and other materials that will be presented to the general and professional public through the website, social networks and events.
