In recent days, employees of the Administration of the Veľká Fatra National Park have installed a nesting mat for the peregrine falcon ( Falco tinnunculus) at the Catholic University in Ružomberok. As we were informed: “falcons nested regularly in a niche on a tin ledge under the roof of the Catholic University in RK”. They used a not very suitable (small) nest built on the ledge by the city pigeons. Unfortunately, only one of the four cubs survived last year. The others, about two weeks old, fell down from the nest due to lack of space. By installing a nesting pad, we have solved this problem and we believe that we have ensured a safe course of the entire nesting process for them in the coming years. We were pleased with the fact that the male peregrine falcon came to see the new nesting mat the next day. You can watch the nesting process online via a live camera on the kukaj.sk website.
The original nest built by the pigeons was too small for the peregrine falcon to nest and the chicks fell out of it. Only one of the four survived.

Installation of a wooden pad on the brackets – grated with PUR foam.

Look at the online cameras on the mat.
