The town of Turany and surrounding municipalities urge increased vigilance. Today, September 16, 2026, corn harvesting (mowing) begins in the cadastral area of Turany. Due to wildlife running out of the fields, there is a high risk of brown bear encounters throughout the entire day.
Critical locations that must be strictly avoided:
- Turany – Drevina: the road towards the village of Nolčovo (Sihosť section)
- Surroundings of the Lúžny les pond
- Surroundings of the Malý and Veľký Bôr ponds (between the villages of Nolčovo and Krpeľany)
Safety measures in the field:
The affected areas are monitored and secured. The following are intervening on-site:
- Brown Bear Emergency Response Team Fatra (ZTMH FATRA)
- Police patrols
- Sučany Voluntary Fire Brigade (DHZ Sučany), which is monitoring the section using drones with thermal imaging cameras.
We strongly urge citizens to avoid the listed locations today and not to move near cornfields. We ask for your consideration and increased attention.
