A few days ago, we brought a beautiful male green woodpecker (Picus viridis) to the Breeding Station at the Administration of the Veľká Fatra National Park. These beautiful woodpeckers winter mainly in large city parks and villages where there are orchards and old trees. Specifically, people found this one in the suburban part of Martin. He probably crashed into a moving car. Professionals from Veterina Turiec gave him basic care, oral nutrition and applied corticosteroids to relieve brain swelling. Thanks to the care, the woodpecker recovered very quickly. Fortunately, she took food nicely from the beginning. She had a very big appetite. Her diet in rehabilitation conditions consisted of mealworms, crickets, finely chopped chicken hearts, boiled egg, nuts and apples. After 4 days, it was released into the wild again, near the online camera of the songbird II. Before that, however, he was given an ornithological club so that we could possibly learn more about her future fate. 😀
