The local part of Ru\u017eomberok \u2013 Biely Potok is the starting point for one of the most visited parts of Slovakia \u2013 Vlkol\u00ednec. Ro <\/span>It is located on the southern slope of one of the promontories of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra ridge at an altitude of 718 meters. Access to Vlkol\u00ednec is after turning off the main road connecting Ru\u017eomberok and Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica. V <\/span>thanks to its isolation from the outside world, Vlkol\u00ednec has preserved its architecture in almost its original state. Log buildings set in the beautiful mountains of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra are <\/span>Built in the classic Liptov style from hewn conifer trunks laid on a stone foundation. The roofs of the houses are covered with wooden shingles. Wood was once the most affordable material for the production of roofing. The log cabins consist of three rooms. J <\/span>The way they were arranged was unique. Twice a year, they were painted blue, pink and white lime. <\/span><\/p>\n

The origin of Vlkol\u00ednec, originally a settlement of lumberjacks and charcoal burners, is assumed between the second half of the 14th and the first half of the 15th century. As a settlement belonging to the area of the town of Ru\u017eomberok, it was part of the castle estate of Likava Castle. The village of Vlkol\u00ednec is a typical two-row building with long courtyards. The protected buildings of the settlement include 45 wooden houses with farm yards. Approximately 30 inhabitants still live here. Vlkol\u00ednec is part of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra National Park, a cycle path and a hiking trail lead through it, for example, to the nearby Sidorovo Hill, towering above it. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The village has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List since December 11, 1993. From<\/span> the apis, it confirms the uniqueness of the site and its significant cultural, historical, natural and architectural value, which must be protected in order to preserve it for future generations.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
