\"\u2754\"<\/span>You must have already caught the information about the occurrence of the Asian hornet in Slovakia. The occurrence of this species has been recorded in southern Slovakia, but it is expected to gradually spread to more northern areas. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\"\u27a1\"<\/span> That is why we want to provide you with important information so that you know how to proceed when you notice its occurrence.<\/p>\n

The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina subsp. nigrithorax), native to Asia, is classified as an invasive species of concern for the European Union. It is smaller than the hornet species commonly found in Europe (common hornet – Vespa crabro). Queens reach a length of 30 mm, males 24 mm and other individuals about 20 mm. <\/div>\n
Compared to the common hornet, this species has a predominantly black color on its head (when viewed from above) and chest, black on the belly also predominates, with a narrow yellow-orange stripe in the front of the abdomen and a wide orange band in the back of the abdomen. A typical feature is the light yellow last links of the otherwise black legs (lower parts of the legs). <\/div>\n

\"\u2755\"<\/span>It is a high threat to native pollinator species, including bee colonies, as the dominant share of food can be made up of \"?\"<\/span>honey bees (Apis mellifera), but also other insects. At the same time, it also poses a threat to fruit growers, as it causes damage to fruit crops and vineyards, as well as to people who are allergic to stinging insects. <\/div>\n

\"\u27a1\"<\/span>This species of Asian hornet has not yet been recorded in the area of competence of the Administration of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra National Park. If you notice its occurrence, proceed as follows: <\/p>\n
